| (October,
2006) Georgia is a 28 year old quarter horse, rescued in Gloucester,
Virginia. Animal control contacted us to see if we could help.
They had been working with the family that owned the horse for
a few months without much progress. USERL went out to have a look
at the horse, it was obvious the horse needed help quickly. She
is severely underweight, and has an abcess a bit larger than a
ping pong ball in her mouth that had gone untreated. My understanding
is that it had been there for at least one month. The owners surrendered
the horse willingly.
Georgia has been placed with a foster. Lucy Maurer, Peninsula
Regional Director, is very grateful to a friend and volunteer,
Sandra for immediately offering to take Georgia and nurse her
back to health. Now that the abcess has been treated, Georgia
is happily eating every bit of grain and hay she gets.
