Please join us in celebrating 10 years and almost 500 horses saved by watching our newest slideshow - Changed For Good, with music from the Broadway play "Wicked". In it are just a few of the horses that have touched our lives over the years, both before rescue and after. We hope you enjoy it as much as we at USERL do! Horse Rescued After Being Left For Dead! Rockcastle County, Kentucky: An abandoned horse would be dead if not for some big-hearted people in Rockcastle County. Now those folks are asking for your help to get that horse healthy again. Kim and Steve Brinson took the Horse named Destiny three weeks ago. "She was taken to a stock auction, when she didn't sell she was dumped on U.S. 25...like a piece of trash, or bag of garbage", says Brinson. Rockcastle County authorities contacted the couple who are members of the United States Equine Rescue League. Since then they have been nursing the horse back to health. She was starving, severely infected with worms, and has a serious leg injury.
The Brinsons are hoping to raise
the money to nurse her back to health, get surgery for her leg and get
her adopted. But Brinson wants something more, to catch the people
who left Destiny to die. "I'd like anyone who has information on her
previous owners to contact the Rockcastle County Sheriff". UPDATE
Oreo came home on January 26! Since arriving
home, little Oreo has continued to gain strength and weight. She has
had no recurrence of her colic. We are hoping that she is healing on
the inside as well as she is on the outside. When she goes out in
the morning, she runs and bucks and kicks up her heels and acts like
a foal. It is wonderful to see her acting silly as there was a time
when we thought she may never have the opportunity. We would
like to thank all who donated to her medical care - you are all
Angels! New pictures coming soon! January 21, 2008 - We are happy to report that Oreo has survived through the weekend. She was more responsive and perky yesterday, but is a little less so this morning. She is being fed intravenously, but the doctors have allowed her to start to eat some. She has a good appetite, but it is unclear if her digestive system is functioning properly. more...
